Jamshedpur: Police have arrested two named accused, including the alleged shooter, in connection with the murder of fruit trader Kanhaiya Yadav in Golmuri. The arrested have been identified as Sumit Singh and Gurpreet Singh. Following interrogation, Golmuri police recovered the pistol used in the crime based on their disclosure. Raids are ongoing to apprehend other accused persons involved in the case.
An FIR was lodged at Golmuri police station on the complaint of the deceased’s wife, Kusum Devi. The named accused in the case include Pradeep Pathak alias Billa Pathak, Golu Pathak, Sumit Singh, Anurag Mishra, and one unidentified person.
Kanhaiya Yadav was shot dead on the morning of February 11 near the Golmuri police station. The assailants fired multiple rounds at him — two bullets struck his head, while one each hit his stomach and leg. During the attack, his associate Ranjit Sharma alias Kali reportedly ran into the City DSP office premises to save his life.
The murder triggered protests in the area. Angry residents gheraoed the Golmuri police station on Wednesday night and blocked Tinplate Chowk on Thursday morning, demanding the arrest of the main accused. The protest continued for nearly six hours before Rural SP Rishabh Garg reached the spot and informed demonstrators that two accused, including the shooter, had been arrested. Following the assurance, the road blockade was lifted.
After the arrests, the victim’s family agreed to conduct the post-mortem and last rites. Police said efforts are continuing to trace and arrest the remaining absconding accused.
