Ranchi, March 20: Kalpana Murmu Soren, wife of former Jharkhand chief minister and JMM working president Hemant Soren, reached Giridih on Wednesday to a rousing welcome by party supporters.
Incidentally, there are talks of Kalpana Soren being fielded by the party for the Gandey by-poll which comes under the Giridih district. However, there are no official confirmation on this. Kalpana Soren was on a two-day visit to the district.
She directly reached Bengabad which falls under Gandey assembly constituency and met the wife of deceased party leader and former MLA Salkhan Soren. She talked with the wife for a long time.
She then reached Jhargatta also in the Gandey assembly constituency and attended a program.
Kalpana Soren was accompanied by cabinet minister Baby Devi, Giridih MLA Sudivya Kumar Sonu, Rajya Sabha MP Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed and many Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leaders.
Significantly, Gandey assembly seat fell vacant after resignation of Sarfaraz Ahmed last year.
It is learnt that the visit is aimed at holding talks with party workers and leaders in preparation for the by-poll.
By-election is going to be held on Gandey assembly seat along with Lok Sabha 2024. Voting for Gandey Assembly seat is scheduled in in the fifth phase on May 20.
