Kalpana Soren files nomination for Gandey by-poll

Ranchi, April 29: Kalpana Soren, wife of former chief minister Hemant Soren, has filed her nomination for the Gandey Assembly by-election.

Chief minister Champai Soren, minister and RJD leader Satyanand Bhokta, cabinet minister and brother in law Basant Soren, Congress leader and cabinet minister Alamgir Alam were present on the occasion.

By-election is to be held on Gandey assembly seat on 20th May along with Lok Sabha polls.

This seat became vacant on 31st December 2023 after then MLA. Sarfaraz Ahmed of JMM had resigned from the post of MLA of this seat.

Before filing nomination, Kalpana Soren touched the feet of former Gandey MLA Sarfaraz and took blessings.

Addressing masses after filing nomination, Kalpana said, “I need the love and blessings of the public. I would like to request the public to bless and give me a chance to work for you.”

She shared a post on her social media handle stating, “The courage of Hemant ji, the blessings of Baba Dishom Guru Shibu Soren ji, the power of ‘bow and arrow’, the support of the people of Gandey Assembly, the affection and blessings of the people of Jharkhand, the blessings of the immortal brave martyrs and brave women. Today I had the great privilege of filing nomination papers for the Gandey Assembly by-election. Today, I salute the people of Gandey, Bengabad and Giridih. With your love, blessings and participation, the Gandey Assembly will be taken to a new heights of progress. Jharkhand will not bow down! INDIA will not stop”.

She will face BJP’s Dilip Verma. Dilip Verma has held many positions in BJP. He has also served as BJP Kisan Morcha district president and considered close to BJP state president Babulal Marandi.
