Jamshedpur: The abduction of young entrepreneur Kairav has forced both Jharkhand and Punjab police to reopen their cold case files. The architect of this conspiracy, Tejinderpal Singh, alias Teja (a resident of Kotmana, Jagraon, Ludhiana), is no ordinary criminal but the head of an interstate kidnapping syndicate. Teja is ranked among Punjab’s top professional kidnappers.
A major chapter in his criminal career involved the kidnapping of a prominent doctor’s son in Ludhiana, where he demanded a ransom of crores. Over half a dozen cases of kidnapping for ransom, attempted murder, and robbery are registered against him across Ludhiana, Jagraon, and Moga. He was also the prime accused in a plot to kidnap a family member of a renowned industrialist near Jagraon.
Tejinderpal spent a significant period in Ludhiana Central Jail, which he transformed into his operational headquarters. Behind bars, he established contacts with criminals from other states and technical experts. Upon his release, he shifted his base to evade police and activated a “sleeper cell” of local criminals in Jamshedpur to execute the Kairav kidnapping.
Teja relies as much on technology as on brute force. He is adept at using virtual numbers and high-end encrypted applications to bypass police tracking. His past possession of restricted foreign weapons confirms his involvement in international arms trafficking. His gang typically operates through honey-traps and months of meticulous “recce” (surveillance) before striking, a method he applied to the Gandhi family as well.
