Jamshedpur: The kidnapping of young entrepreneur Kairav Gandhi, son of businessman Devang Gandhi, has entered its eleventh day, with his safe release currently hinging on a potential mediator. Kairav was abducted on January 13 near the Kadma-Sonari Link Road in a sophisticated operation involving a white Scorpio and a silver Maruti Swift. While the initial ransom demand was reported at ₹5 crore, sources now indicate that the kidnappers have increased their demand to ₹10 crore.
The investigation has pivoted toward organized crime syndicates in Bihar after initial calls were traced to an Indonesian number. Authorities suspect the involvement of notorious figures such as Chandan Sonar, also known as the “Kidnapping King,” or the Ajay Singh and Chotu Yadav gangs. A silver Maruti Swift used during the abduction was recovered in the Kadma area, providing a direct link to suspects across the border in Bihar. Consequently, raids are being conducted by SIT, CID, and ATS teams in several districts, including Aurangabad, Vaishali, Patna, and Motihari.
Despite the intensity of the search, the police are proceeding with extreme caution, prioritizing the victim’s safety over an immediate breakthrough. In previous high-profile kidnapping cases in Jamshedpur, successful resolutions were often achieved through mediation, but a reliable intermediary has yet to be established in this instance. The family has maintained a high level of confidentiality, forcing the police to rely heavily on technical evidence such as CCTV footage and mobile tracking.
The incident has caused widespread panic among the business community in Jamshedpur. Union Minister Sanjay Seth recently met with the family to express support and demand more aggressive action against what he described as a deteriorating law-and-order situation. While several suspects are in custody and the Director General of Police is personally monitoring the case, the city remains in a state of high tension as the wait for Kairav’s safe return continues.
