Jamshedpur : The project Kadma-Sonari stretch of the marine drive linking Adityapur toll-bridge with Mango that was hoping for positive beginning has again hit the trouble waters.
Tata Steel though has decided to clear encroachment along a stretch of the under-construction marine drive. Sources said that those settled at Rupnagar in Kadma in an unauthorised manner will be provided with a small plot of land for building their houses. But the dwellers are not wiling to move away from.
” We were confident that once the encroached portion of the land is vacant, we will start the construction work speedily but some the dwellers are not willing to shift, said an official.
The enchroachment was likely to be removed in a week’s time, and once it is done they would work on war-footing and complete the work as early as possible. The management of the steel major had last month declared that the vehicular communication through the marine drive will start from July 15 through one side of the under-constructed marine drive.
Notably, the nine-kilometres-long marine drive is being set up to keep the steel city free from the movement of heavy vehicles from inside the city. The Rs 120 crores worth project which comes under the Tata Steel’s Wester Corridor Project was started in June 2012 and was scheduled to be end by June 2014.
But due to the encroachment hurdle along Kadma side, the work was suspended at the side where there was encroachment.
It may be mentioned that in view of the expansion plans of Tata Steel and other Tata Group companies in Jamshedpur, Tata Steel Limited had engaged reputed Consultant M/s L & T Rambole and M/s Consulting Engineering Services of Delhi to do a transport study of Jamshedpur.
The study recommended construction of two corridors, the Eastern Corridor and the Western Corridor along with bridges on river Subernarekha and river Kharkai. To decongest the city roads further, it recommended increasing the width of the city roads, strengthening the sub-grade of roads, building new roads and parking areas in major markets such as Bistupur, Kadma and Sakchi.
A senior official of Tata Steel’s logistics department informed that the slum dwellers who were agreed upon to shift from the Rupnagar along the under-constructed marine drive have stopped this morning from shifting after a section of local politicians enticed them.
Sources said that those settled at Rupnagar in Kadma in an unauthorised manner will be provided with a small plot of land for building their houses. After they will be relocated for construction of stretch Kadma-Sonari stretch of the marine drive linking Adityapur toll-bridge with Mango they will receive flats at Devnagar.
Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee as part of Rajiv Awas Yojna is working on the project. Tata Steel has put the district administration under pressure to remove encroachments from these settlements.
The housing project has two bedrooms flats, a hall, the kitchen. The two-storey and three-storey buildings will be built for the effected families. In addition, community centre and other amenities will be there at colony. At Devnagar 441 flats for 1230 families are being prepared. The flat project is worth Rs 21 crore.
