Jamshedpur: A delegation of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha members met the senior superintendent of police, East Singhbhum, Amol Venukant Homkar, and demanded arresting of Suresh Sonthalia, president of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce.
Leading the delegation, Abhay Singh, central committee secretary of JVM, said the party activists had demanded immediate arresting of Sonthalia in a case lodged against him with the Bistupur police station. He alleged that the police were trying to wink at the offence committed by the Chamber president.
It appears that the district administration has turned a blind eye to the acts of the Chamber president. Suresh Sonthalia was booked under a non-bailable charge by Bistupur police in connection with his participation in the Grill Todo Abhiyan (break grill campaign) launched by Chamber members recently at Bistupur. But still he is moving scot-free as police have not arrested him due to reasons best known to him, said Abhay Singh.
The JVM leader alleged that police did not arrest Sonthalia despite being in a position to nab him anytime. He said the police should not adopt different attitudes for accused persons of different social and political status. The law is same for everyone. No one is above law in this country. Police should not be lenient to any specific person. The accused of any offence should be arrested without delay irrespective of their economic status or links, said the JVM leader.
Among those present in the delegation included Suryakant Jha, Lalan Chouhan, Sanjay Singh, Satyendra Paswan, Raju Singh, Manish Agrawal, Reena Choudhary, Sangita Sharma, Purvi Dutta and Rahul Singh.
