JVM activists stage dharna for culvert in Birsanagar

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Vikas Morcha(JVM) activists staged a dharna in Birsanagar between zone number 4 and 8 on Thursday to demand construction of a culvert in the locality.

Leading the agitation, JVM secretary Abhay Singh said the culvert was in shambles for the last three years despite repair carried out at the cost of Rs 9 lakh. He said the culvert could have been built afresh with the amount spent on its repair which did not last even few years. He said the construction of the culvert was an example of corruption.

It is disappointing and shocking to know that even after spending so much on the repair of the culvert, the authorities concerned never took pains to find out its condition. The culvert has been lying in deplorable condition for the last three years. It should have lasted for 50 years which seems an impossibility given the high level of corruption, said the JVM leader.

The JVM leader said a mishap could occur anytime given the poor condition of the culvert which was still being used by many people on a daily basis. He said the culvert should be reconstructed without any further delay in the larger interest of the people.
