Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan new Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice

Ranchi, May 27; The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, senior judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court, as the new Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.

In the meeting of the Collegium held on Monday, the appointment of Chief Justices for Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Patna High Courts along with Jharkhand was also recommended.

Justice Chauhan was born on 9 January 1964 in Rohru area of Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh. He received his early education from Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, where he was also the school captain.

After this, he graduated with honors from DAV College Chandigarh and obtained a law degree from Punjab University, Chandigarh.

After starting his law practice in the year 1989, he joined the prestigious chamber of senior advocate Lala Chhabil Das. He specialized in various legal fields in Himachal High Court and served as legal advisor to many institutions including State Electricity Board, Civil Supplies Corporation.

In his judicial career, he was sworn in as Additional Judge on 23 February 2014 and as Permanent Judge of High Court on 30 November 2014. He has also been the Acting Chief Justice of Himachal High Court on two occasions.
