Justice MS Rao takes oath as Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice

 

Ranchi, Sept 25: Justice MS Ramachandra Rao on Wednesday took oath as the new Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. Governor Santosh Gangwar administered him oath of office at the Raj Bhawan.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Acting Chief Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad were present along with other judges and top bureaucrats of the state.

The central government had issued a notification transferring Justice Rao from the Himachal Pradesh Jharkhand high court on September 21.

The appointments came after the Supreme Court Collegium amended some of its July 11 recommendations earlier this month.

Born on August 7, 1966, in Hyderabad, Justice Rao studied B.Sc. (Hons.)(Mathematics) from Bhavans New Science College, Osmania University. He passed LL.B. from the University College of Law, Osmania University, Hyderabad in 1989. He was awarded the CVSS Acharyulu Gold Medal by the Osmania University for securing the highest marks in the final year LL.B.

He enrolled as an Advocate on September 7, 1989 and secured LL.M. from the University of Cambridge U.K. in 1991.

His father Justice M Jagannadha Rao was a former Judge of The Supreme Court of India between 1997 and 2000 and former Chairman of Law Commission of India. His grandfather M.S. Ramachandra Rao was also a Judge of The High Court of Andhra Pradesh from 1960-1961.

Justice MS Rao was elevated as Addl. Judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh on June 29, 2012, and was appointed as Judge of the Andhra Pradesh HC and assumed charge as such on December 4, 2013.

He was transferred as Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court and assumed charge of the office on October 12, 2021.
