Jamshedpur: Justice Madan B Lokur of Supreme Court today inaugurated the first Alternative Dispute Resolution centre of Jharkhand at Jamshedpur Civil Court.
Lokur was accompanied by Justice R Banumati, Chief Justice of Jharkhand and other dignitaries of the legal fraternity. He was the chief guest of the occasion. Many lawyers and court staff were present during the inaugural function.
In his address, Justice Lokur expressed hope that the ADR (alternative dispute redressal) centre would prove to be an effective medium of minimizing disputes and finding out their solution through mutual compromise between parties to various disputes.
Justice Lokur is on a visit to Jharkhand from 2nd to 4th May.
Alternative Dispute Resolution is based on the logic of disposal of cases through mutual compromise between the concerned parties. It is a method by which the rate of disposal of pending cases may be sped up and incidence of new cases piling up as pending cases may also be prevented effectively. The ADR Centre will facilitate carrying out of its vision and aim by helping parties to any dispute arrive at a unanimous point by meeting each other midway and ending dispute altogether, sources said.
Sources said the ADR Centre was inaugurated as a result of ongoing efforts of the judiciary to enable parties to a dispute get rid of the hassles involved in litigation process and the huge expenses thereafter. By way of alternative dispute redressal, parties are relieved and so is the legal system burdened by ever-increasing number of cases pending for hearing, sources said.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Justice RR Prasad, Justice PP Bhatt, Justice DN Upadhayaya, all from Jharkhand High Court and other officers of the Civil Court. Justice Lokur also visited Child Reform Centre at Ghaghidih Central Jail. Officials from civil administration extended their courtesy during the entire programme.
