Jamshedpur, April 14: Every year 14th April is observed as National Fire Service Day.
On this day, in the year 1944, the fire service personnel displayed exemplary courage and devotion to duty as they fought the huge fire that had erupted following an explosion on a ship S.S. Fort Sticken berthed at the docks of Mumbai Port Trust.
Many fire fighters lost their lives, leaving behind their names etched in the minds of Mumbaites forever. Even after this accident, while fighting fire, so many fire fighters have lost their lives. On 14th April of every year, due respect and homage is paid to those brave fighters.
National Fire Service Day 2016 was observed by Jusco on 14th April in Jusco Green. Ashish Mathur, managing director, Jusco and Raghunath Pandey, President Jusco Shramik Union hoisted the Fire Service Day Flag.
The program was conducted by Ramadhar Rai, chairman, Central SHE Committee, Jusco. During their address both the dignitaries emphasized on giving importance to fire safety at work place as well as at home.
Several programmes were organised by Safety Department of Jusco during the Fire Service Week during April 14-20, 2016 to create fire safety awareness among the employees in Jusco and the citizens of Jamshedpur.
