Jamshedpur : A lady customer of Bank of Baroda was duped of Rs 25,000 by a miscreant who offered to help the victim by counting the cash which she had withdrawn. The incident took place at the Bistupur branch of the Bank of Baroda on Wednesday morning. The victim, Heena Sarobar withdrew Rs 72,000 from the cash counter.
Sources said as the lady was facing problem in handling her two-year-old child while counting the cash that she had withdrawn, a 27-year-old man approached her and requested to lend her help in counting the cash.
According to sources, the miscreants while counting the currencies, which were of Rs 500 denomination claimed some notes to be fake. However he finally handed over the notes, declaring that the total amount was Rs 72,000. The stranger had subsequently gone out of the bank soon.
A resident of Jugsalai Heena counted them once again and to her shock found that amount she had now in her hand was Rs 47,000 and not Rs 72,000.
Hena has lodged a complaint with the Bistupur police, leading the police to register a case of forgery against unknown miscreant.
Officer-in-charge, Bistupur police station, Jitendra Kumar confirmed that a case of cheating has been registered on the basis of a complaint today.
