Jugsalai municipality sweepers call off strike

Jamshedpur: The sweepers under contract to contractor Pappu Singh called off their strike after a successful negotiation through the intervention of Congress leaders headed by the party�s state secretary Rakesh Sahu and west Bidhan Sabha area vice president Aruna Mukhi.

As per the demands of the sweepers Pappu Singh assured to disburse one month�s wages on July 11 and the other pending wages for the second month within a week. The contractor also assured that their PF and ESI contributions would be given to them as per norms. The agitating sweepers thereafter returned to work.
The information was provided in a joint press release by Rakesh Sahu and Aruna Mukhi.

The contracted sweepers informed that they were being paid at a daily rate of Rs 225 instead of Rs 285.
Those present at the discussion included Satyendra Kumar, Sonu Singh, Jyoti Mishra, Vijay Sinha, Sudarshan Tiwary, Buchchu Mukhi, Nand Kishore, Vicky Mukhi, Pawan, Vinod Mukhi and others.
