Jamshedpur: In a novel initiative, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) is all set to construct special classrooms on the top of the toilet buildings across city slums. Titled Neeche Shauchalaya, Upar Vidyalaya, the purpose of this project is to educate illiterate people, especially senior citizens, working women and dropout children in an informal environment. The special officer of JNAC Sanjay Kumar said as per the new design, the rooftop of all community toilets are over 50 feet long with stairs, electricity supply and rooftop rooms. The rooms on the roof of the toilet buildings may easily double up as classrooms for imparting informal education to the underprivileged and illiterate persons, he said.
Kumar said the experimental classroom would be started very soon at Nirmal Nagar near Marine Drive with the help of Change India Foundation. The experiment would be expanded in other slums as well, he said.
