Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, May 4: JNAC Special Officer Krishna Kumar ordered a special drive against sale of tobacco and tobacco products which are banned during the lockdown period. This comes on the heel of reports that under the counter sales of chewing tobacco, guthka, zarda and beetle leaves at enhanced prices were flourishing in several localities. Acting on the directives of JNAC Special Officer, the police and City manager Ravi Bharati swooped in on several shops and confiscated such products estimated at several thousands of rupees.

As news of the operation spread, nervous beetle shop owners downed their shop shutters. Krishna Kumar said that this action was taken in keeping with the lockdown guidelines of the state government. It may be mentioned that in spite of East Singhbhum being a Green Zone, the lockdown norms remain unchanged in this district as in the rest of Jharkhand.
