Jamshedpur: Sanitation services under the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) are set for a major overhaul from March, as the civic body has initiated the tender process for the new financial year 2025–26 to streamline cleanliness operations across the city.
Under the new arrangement, selected agencies will be responsible for comprehensive sanitation work across JNAC limits, including sweeping of roads and localities, drain cleaning, bush cutting, and door-to-door garbage collection. The scope of work will also cover bleaching powder sprinkling, removal of carcasses of stray animals, and additional cleaning drives during festivals and special occasions. The number of sanitation workers may be increased or reduced depending on operational requirements.
Seven Zones Identified
The JNAC area has been divided into seven zones for effective implementation. Sale of tender forms will begin on February 18, while bids will be opened on March 6 at 4 pm. Payment to contractors will be made only after formal allotment of work.
The sanitation zones include:
- Eastern Zone (A & B): Baridih Basti, Bagunnagar, Laxminagar, Jemco, Burmamines, Jojobera and parts of Telco.
- Central Zone: Sakchi, Kashidih, Baradwari, Bhuiyandih, Chhayanagar and the court premises area.
- Western Zone (A & B): Kadma, Shastrinagar, Sonari, Uliyan, Bistupur, Circuit House and Dhatkidih.
- Birsanagar Zone: Blocks 1 to 11 of Birsanagar and Mohorda-Murakati areas.
- Government Offices: All government offices and residential premises under JNAC jurisdiction.
Pending Dues Trigger Concerns
The move comes amid discontent among existing sanitation contractors, whose payments have reportedly been pending for nearly 10 months. Contractors have repeatedly warned of going on strike over unpaid bills, and sanitation workers have on several occasions halted work due to salary delays.
Officials hope the new tender process and structured zonal system will improve service delivery and address operational challenges, ensuring cleaner neighbourhoods across Jamshedpur from the start of the next financial year.
