Revealing about the action, special officer, JNAC, Deepak Sahay said that they sealed the deviated floors of the two buildings on the basis of complaint received from the field workers of the civic body.

We will now take necessary action against the building owners in accordance with the Jharkhand Building Bye Laws 2016,” said the special officer.

Sahay, when queried, said that as per the existing rules under the Jharkhand Building Bye Laws, the deviated part of the buildings in question will be razed, but as the civic body does not have necessary equipment for demolishing the extra floor, they would offer the owners of the building concerned to either get the extra floors razed themselves or get ready to be penalised .

The special officer informed that they have initiated a fresh drive to identify the buildings which have been built in deviation of the approved building plan.

Interestingly, constructing buildings in land-crunched JNAC command area in violation of the approved plan is a common thing to happen. There areas like Sitaramdera, Baradwari, Sonari, Sakchi and Kadma where most of the residential apartments have been built in deviation of the approved plan.

“We would be carrying out similar drive in different lanes and roads inside the Sakchi market regularly as part of our objective to decongest roads in the market area,” said the official.

Similar drives would be carried out on the road opposite Basant Talkies, Tin Shed Market and on Kalimati Road. This drive will make a way for smooth flow of traffic. Acting on frequent complaints made by residents the step is being taken.

“We cannot comprise with the safety of market place. Moreover , people also find it inconvenience to move into the market freely with the passages getting choked due to the make-shift shops,” said the official.

According to Kumar, they would ensure that the market place is cleared of any type of encroachments including the manner in which the shopkeepers had extended their shops.

Encroachments in the city are omnipresent and thriving, much to the discomfort of the ordinary citizen. The city is known for the encroachments which blot the urban landscape.
