Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee has started building decentralized composting pits on vacant lands across the city. The JNAC teams are constructing the pits in Shastrinagar, Kadma, Birsanagar, Sonari, Moharda, Baridih and Bagunhatu.
According to Sanjay Kumar, Special Officer, JNAC, the construction of composting plant on any big plot of land would prevent encroachment of adjoining land. In future, such lands may also be utilized, said Kumar.
In Block Number 4 in Shastrinagar, three large composting pits of capacity 10 tonne each are under construction. Similar experiment would be carried out in other areas of the city very soon, officials said.
The JNAC officials said wet waste disposal should be done effectively after their segregation. Such waste would be kept in decentralized composting pits to convert them into organic manure and worm compost.
