Jamshedpur: Citys civic body Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has started taking efforts to take steel city free from cow dung waste September 15. JNAC has selected two agencies for regular clearing and disposal of cow dungs from entire city.
It is our ambitious project and we are making every effort to make it success. As per our plan the city has been divided into Jamshedpur West and Jamshedpur East zone and two agencies will look after separate zones. The agency will be carrying out survey of the number of cattle sheds, number of cattles, amount of cow dungs and waste generated from the cattle sheds etc for the next one week. Thereafter we will again meet the agency officials who will present us with details of personnel required for daily cleaning of cow dungs and other waste from each of the cattle sheds. They will start cleaning cow dungs from each of the cattle sheds from September 15 onwards, said JNAC special officer Sanjay Kumar Pandey.
According to information, there are over 100 cattle sheds, mostly illegal across city which usually witnesses cow dung and garbage and is the major vector breeding spot and a health hazards for local residents.
It is a win-win situation for both JNAC and private agencies. While the municipal bodies will not have to worry about clearing cow dung the private agencies will charge a monthly nominal amount, to be fixed by the urban body, from each of the cattle shed owners for collecting waste. The agency will have the right to either reuse the cow dungs as compost or fertilizer and sell it, said JNAC special officer.
“We are also intensifying steps to prevent breeding of such mosquitoes. The mosquito that carries Zika Virus- Aedes Aegypti- breeds in fresh water. Unclean air coolers at homes, clogged drains and fodder buckets in mushrooming cattle sheds also promote breeding of such mosquitoes,” explained an official.
While M/s R. K Constructions will collect cow dung waste in Jamshedpur West and M/s Ojha Construction will clean cow dung in Jamshedpur East sector.
