Ranchi: Activists of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha stated a dharna in front of Governor’s House today against land acquisition ordinance.
JMM president Shibu Soren, former chief minister Hemant Soren and other senior leaders took part in the agitation. A memorandum was submitted to the Governor in this regard.
In the memorandum the JMM said that land acquisition in Jharkhand had been an uphill task because of CNT/SPT Act, Wilkinson’s Rule, PESA Act and the system of local governance.
The provisions of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution constrain acquisition of the tribal land, the memorandum said. The leaders have also lodged their protest against recruitment drive in the absence of domicile policy.
A party delegation headed by Hemant Soren met the Governor and alleged that steps are being taken to wipe out existence of the tribal communities in Jharkhand. Soren said that the present government has taken decision to provide government jobs to outsiders without framing the domicile policy.
Hemant Soren has alleged that the State Government was out to provide jobs to people from Chattisgarh, Bihar, UP and Bengal while inhabitants of Jharkhand are leading a pitiful life working as daily wage earners.
He said that if the local unemployed are denied jobs then they would deviate from social and economic mainstream.
Legislator Stephen Marandi, Champai Soren, Jagarnath Mahato, senior leader Haji Hussain Ansari, Vinod Pandey, Supriyo Bhattacharya and others also took part in dharna agitation.
