Jamshedpur, March 15: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) members and supporters staged a one-day sit-in at Dimna Chowk on Wednesday to protest amendments in the CNT and SPT laws.
Many senior party leaders including district JMM president Ramdas Soren, Baharagora MLA Kunal Sarangi, Zila Parishad member Pintu Dutta, former MP Suman Mahato, Sheikh Badruddin, Kamaljeet Kaur Gill, Laltu Mahato, Mahabir Murmu and others participated in the demonstration.
On the occasion protestors said, ‘With the amendments in CNT Act and SPT Act, the very existence of Adivasis and Moolvasis will be jeopardized. The tribal people will have no other option other than migrating to other states in such situation. Chief Minister Raghubar Das should tell everyone as to why is the amendment being made to these laws and who had first sought these amendments.”
The senior party leaders said the state government should also tell the people about the impedance caused by the land laws in the development of the state. He alleged that the state government was out to ‘usurp’ the land of tribal people so that the same could be transferred in the name of capitalists.
Zila Parishad member Pintu Datta said that the state government had failed to rehabilitate people displaced by various development schemes in the state in the last several years.
