Tribute pours in as city mourns sudeen death of former Deputy CM Sudhir Mahato
Jamshedpur : Rich tribute poured in from across the State as the city mourned the sudden death of former deputy CM and senior JMM leader Sudhir Mahato.
Political leaders, administrative officers and people from all walks of life expressed shock over the untimely demise of JMM stalwart.
Mahto, a former deputy chief minister and senior JMM leader, died of a massive heart attack while on his way back to Jamshedpur on Wednesday night. He was 58. Mahto is survived by his wife and four daughters.
Mahto had gone to Maubhandar (near Ghatshila) to attend the marriage reception of Jharkhand Copper Majdoor Union general secretary Devi Prasad Mukherjee�s son.
JMM legislator from Ghatshila Ramdas Soren and his Bahragora counterpart Bidyut Varan Mahto were also in the reception.
Sources said Mahto suddenly received sever pain in his chest while he moving towards Jamshedpur in his SUV.
Besides Mahto, his driver Sambhu, relative Sanjit Mahto and bodyguards were also in the four-wheeler.
The driver rushed the vehicle to the nearby Indian Copper Complex (ICC) Works Hospital –after alerting the MLA�s who were following the JMM leader�s four-wheeler, where the doctors tried in vain to save him. Latter on Mahto�s body was sent to Tata Main Hospital.
Transport minister Champai Soren, JMM MLAs Ramdas Soren and Bidyut Varan Mahto, Jamshedpur West Congress legislator Banna Gupta and several JMM functionaries were present at the hospital when Mahto�s body reached the emergency.
Family sources said the funeral will take place tomorrow after the former deputy CM�s eldest daughter Sujya returns to the city. She is studying in Gujarat and is returning late in the evening today.
Meanwhile senior leader Simon Marandi, former chief minister Arjun Munda, senior BJP leader Saryu Rai, BJP state spokesperson Amarpreet Singh Kale, JVM parliamentarian Ajoy Kumar, party MLA Arvind Singh, have expressed shock over the demise.
Deputy inspector general Laxman Prasad Singh, Khadi Board chairman Jainandu and administrative officials from Seraikela-Kharsawan also visited the Samadhi venue.
Chief minister Hemant Soren, who was supposed to visit Mahto�s residence today, is scheduled to come tomorrow along with JMM supremo Shibu Soren.
