JMM to launch mass protest against land law amendments: Soren

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha will launch a public awareness campaign against the recent amendments in the Chhota Nagpur Tenancy Act and the Santhal Paragana Tenancy Act by the BJP-led state government. This was declared here on Tuesday by the Seraikela MLA and senior party leader Champai Soren during a press conference organized at Gamharia.

Soren said the party was going to launch Ulgulan or a movement against the amendments in land laws. He said the BJP government was out to hit at the Adivasi culture by tampering with the local laws meant for protection of the Adivasis. He said that any disruption of the Adivasi way of life will not be tolerated at any cost. He said the party was going to start a mass campaign against the policies of the Raghubar Das government.

Soren further said that the party demanded immediate withdrawal of FIR against 500 unidentified persons in connection with the public protest in the presence of the CM in Kharsawan on 1st January. He said if the cases are not withdrawn, the party would organize a 500 kilometre-long human chain in March and hand over a memorandum to the President. He further said that the party would demand revocation of amendments made in the local land laws by the BJP government through its memorandum.

Among others present during the press conference included Ganesh Choudhary, Kokil Mandal, Ranjeet Pradhan, Amrit Mahato, Deepak Mandal and Dr Shubhendu Mahato.
