Jadugora: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha activists and supporters staged a sit-in at Chand Chowk near Damudih in support of their demand for the construction of a canal culvert in Baghmara close to Narwa Pahar.
They alleged that the authorities concerned did not fulfill the demand despite being raised by local villagers for the last two years.
The JMM leaders said the construction of the culvert over the canal was important since it would afford the villagers connectivity on both sides of the canal. They said the authorities concerned in the district administration should immediately take up the issue and take concrete action to make sure that the demand is fulfilled without any further delay.
On coming to know about the agitation, the executive engineer Prem Nath Jha reached the sit-in venue and listened to the protestors. He had to face the brunt of the protestors’ ire for sometime. After a while, he assured them of taking necessary action in this connection.
JMM leaders said the work of construction of a culvert over the canal near Ranga Pahar at the expense of Rs 22 crore has been stopped temporarily.
Among those present on the occasion included Sukurmuni Tudu, Sudhir Soren, Johen Das Baskey, Ganesh Sardar, Biltu Hansda, Avitra Sardar, Siddo Hansda, Shivcharan Hansda and Salkhan Hembram.
