Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Human Rights Conference (JHRC) launched Healthy Baby Award programme in the city on Sunday. The programme is a part of the save the girlchild campaign started by the outfit with the purpose to stop female foeticide and ensure proper upbringing of girls.
The programme was inaugurated by giving the award to the daughter of a Silli resident couple Visheshwar and Vilasi. A cash prize of Rs 1000 was given to the couple. The programme was presided over by the outfit president Manoj Mishra.
Mishra said the very purpose of the campaign was to create greater awareness among parents on the issue of female foeticide and motivate them to bring up female offspring with proper care and full affection. He said the JHRC had launched the campaign with the target to involve as many people as possible in it.
The campaign is carried out in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital every Sunday. The JHRC women�s cell vice president Sunita Gupta provided nutritious food and fruits to around 30 patients of the children�s ward in the government hospital.
