Jharkhand’s Swati Verma enters quarters of Tata Steel AITA Tennis Championship

Top-seeded Shagnik Bose ousted in second round

Jamshedpur, Nov. 9: Swati Verma of Jharkhand turns out to be the State’s sole flag bearer in the Quarter Finals of the ongoing Tata Steel AITA Tennis Championship Series 2021, being held at the Deco Turf courts of the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur.  

Verma assured 10 national ranking points in the Girls Under 18 category as she drubbed Bengal’s Adrija De in a straight 6-0,6-3 encounter to enter the quarter finals of the singles event. She will face 4th seeded Tanisha Roy, also from Bengal, in the quarter finals.

Other Jharkhand girls including Anshika Raj lost to top seeded West Bengal’s Sumeira Jaiswal in straight sets 6-0,6-0.

Vanshika Agarwal of West Bengal beat Jharkhand’s Aditi Saha of Jharkhand 6-0,6-0.

Second seeded Rituja Saha from West Bengal defeated her opponent Trisha Saha 6-0, 6-2. Third seed Priyasakhi Sanjana of West Bengal lost to Samriddha Basu also of West Bengal.   

In the Boys Singles Under 18 category, unseeded Steven Ankit Ekka of Odisha toppled Shagnik Bose of Bengal, seeded 1 in the draw by a straight 6-4,6-1. Ekka will meet Divyansh Prahladka in the quarter finals, who in turn ousted 7th seeded Subhro Kanti Ganguli of UP. Also making an early exit was the 4th seeded Tamoghna Das who went down against Bihar’s Vaibhav Singh by 2-6,3-6.

Seeded 2 in the draw West Bengal’s Keshav Goel defeated Mayand Tewary of West Bengal 3-6,6-3,6-2 to advance to the quarter final.    

Matches will be held from 08:30 am tomorrow.
