Ranchi, Feb 13 : Jharkhand has recorded a significant decline in its unemployment rate, emerging as one of the best-performing states in the country, according to the latest findings of the National Statistical Office.
Data from the recent Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) shows that the state’s unemployment rate for all age groups fell to 3.2 per cent during the October–December 2025 quarter.
This marks a sharp improvement from 4.3 per cent recorded in the July–September 2025 quarter.
With the updated figures, Jharkhand now ranks just behind Gujarat and Karnataka in terms of the lowest unemployment rates among states.
Gujarat reported an unemployment rate of 2.3 per cent, while Karnataka stood at 2.7 per cent during the same October–December 2025 period.
The data indicates that Jharkhand has made notable strides in narrowing the gap with some of India’s major industrial states in reducing joblessness.
However, disparities persist within the state. Rural Jharkhand recorded a relatively low unemployment rate of 2.3 per cent, whereas urban areas reported a considerably higher rate of 8.1 per cent.
Experts attribute this gap to migration patterns, noting that a substantial number of people move from rural areas to towns and cities in search of employment, leading to higher visible unemployment in urban centres.
Gender-wise, the survey reveals that overall unemployment among women is lower than that of men in the state.
This trend also holds true in rural areas. In urban Jharkhand, however, women face higher unemployment compared to their male counterparts.
While challenges remain, the latest PLFS data underscores a positive trajectory for Jharkhand’s labour market, reflecting improved employment conditions over the past quarter.
