Jamshedpur, Sept 11: Jharkhand State Youth Congress secretary Rakesh Sahu and the party�s OBC cell district president Surendra Sharma have claimed that the fines promulgated in the new Motor Vehicles Act are harassment to the people and add fuel to malpractices. The Congress leaders have urged the state and central governments to roll back the Act.
In a press release on Tuesday, the Congress leaders have however stated that there should be no letup in penalizing helmetless two wheeler riders and motorists driving vehicles without fastening their seat belts. But, they added, the fines imposed in such cases should be at preceding rates and not the ones introduced now in the revised Motor Vehicles Act.
Both Rakesh Sahu and Surendra Sharma mentioned in the release that if the government wanted to reform the habits of the people riding two wheelers or driving cars, there should be provisions for availability of helmets, vehicle insurance and pollution checks at all traffic checking points. They contended in the release that the fine charges were additional burdens on people in general who were already passing through the pangs of spiraling prices and joblessness.
