Ranchi, June 5: This time turncoats who changed sides and contested elections from other parties had to face defeat.
These include Geeta Koda, JP Patel, Sita Soren and Mamta Bhuiyan.
Leaders put aside their party loyalty and join other parties for a single ticket. The people of Jharkhand have rejected such turncoats. The people of Jharkhand have given a message that they do not like such leaders.
Geeta Koda, wife of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, was a big leader to change parties from Jharkhand just before the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024. After winning the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Geeta Koda became close to the Congress and the Gandhi family. But just before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Geeta Koda joined the BJP and also got a ticket from Singhbhum.
Shocked by Geeta Koda’s sudden departure from the Congress and joining the BJP, the Congress had to leave its seat for INDIA block’s ally Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. The result was that Geeta Koda had to face a crushing defeat at the hands of former minister Joba Manjhi.
Meanwhile, Sita Soren, the elder daughter-in-law of Shibu Soren and three-time MLA from Jama, left JMM and joined the BJP just before the Lok Sabha elections. By cutting the declared ticket of 2019’s winning candidate Sunil Soren, the BJP gave Sita Soren a ticket from Dumka. JMM fielded its old and loyal veteran leader Nalin Soren against Sita Soren. The result was that despite Shibu Soren being ill and Hemant Soren being in jail, JMM snatched this seat from the BJP. Nalin Soren, as a JMM candidate, got 5,47,370 votes and defeated Sita Soren by 22,527 votes.
Meanwhile, voters did not like the excessive ambition of former minister and MLA from Mandu, Jaiprakash Bhai Patel. The message that went out to the public was that for Jaiprakash Bhai Patel, his personal ambition matters more than the party’s policy, principles and loyalty. After his father’s death, he left the JMM party.
He left the JMM which made him a minister by winning the by-election and joined the BJP and when the BJP did not give him a Lok Sabha ticket, he joined the Congress just before the elections.
RJD’s only candidate Mamta Bhuiyan had also joined the party before the elections and got a ticket. She also suffered a huge defeat.
