Ranchi: In a significant update for residents and employees across the state, the Jharkhand government has officially moved the public holiday for Ram Navami from Thursday, March 26, to Friday, March 27.
The Department of Personnel, Administrative Reforms, and Rajbhasha issued a fresh notification on Wednesday evening, effectively withdrawing the previously scheduled holiday for March 26.
Impact on Institutions
As per the new directive, the following will now remain open on Thursday, March 26, and closed on Friday, March 27:
-
All Government Offices
-
Educational Institutions (Schools and Colleges)
-
Banking Institutions
Reasons for the Change
The state administration cited several key factors for this last-minute revision:
-
Almanac Alignment: Religious organizations and Hindu almanacs confirmed that the principal Navami rituals and the main shobha yatras (processions) will take place on March 27 this year.
-
Regional Uniformity: Organizations like the Jharkhand Gramin Bank Employees’ Association pointed out that neighboring states, including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, are also observing the festival on Friday.
-
Public Participation: Shifting the holiday ensures that citizens can participate fully in the festivities without professional or academic conflicts.
Security and Logistics
The state has immediately implemented the new directive across all divisional and district-level institutions. Security forces and administrative teams are currently realigning their duty rosters and crowd-control plans to match the revised procession schedule.
