Jharkhand Police busts cyber criminal defrauding job seekers in HDFC Bank Scam

Ranchi : In a major crackdown on cybercrime, Jharkhand Police has successfully apprehended a cyber criminal involved in a deceptive job scam targeting aspiring individuals seeking employment at HDFC Bank. The arrested individual, identified as Vikas Dharlal (27 years), hailing from New HB Road, Kokar Chowk, Ranchi Sadar police station area, has been taken into custody. His father is named Banshi Dharlal.

The police, in a swift operation, seized crucial evidence from the arrested cyber criminal, including 1 mobile phone, 1 SIM card, 2 ATM cards, 1 Aadhar card, Voter ID card, 2 bank passbooks, and 1 checkbook.
Upon investigation and during the interrogation process, Vikas Dharlal confessed to orchestrating the scam along with accomplices, impersonating HDFC Bank officers to dupe individuals by promising them fictitious job opportunities. The modus operandi involved creating a false impression of recruitment for positions such as Legal Manager at HDFC Corporate Bank Limited, with another person named Gaurav Kumar Dey purportedly appointed as Business Manager.

The criminals exploited the trust of unsuspecting victims by posing as legitimate bank officials, using fake email addresses attributed to HDFC Bank during the recruitment process. The scam came to light when victims, who fell prey to the cyber fraud, filed a written complaint on January 2, 2024, at the Sisai police station in Gumla district.
