Jharkhand: PM Modi launches Rs 83K crore worth projects for upliftment of tribals

Hazaribagh, October 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of development projects worth over Rs 83,700 crore from Vinoba Bhave University in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh on Wednesday.

Modi during the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti launched ‘Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan,’ a comprehensive program aimed at the holistic development of tribal communities across India.

The program with an estimated budget of Rs 79,150 crore, is set to benefit over give crore tribal citizens across 65,000 tribal-dominated villages in 549 districts spanning 30 states and union territories.

Modi addressing to public during the launching event said, “The programs have been specifically designed for the upliftment of tribals in the country. I’m very happy that the projects for the tribals are being launched from Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s land.”

The PM further added that the schemes seek to address the critical gaps in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities through 25 different interventions spearheaded by 17 central ministries and departments.

The PM also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple projects under the “PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan” (PM-JANMAN), with a total value of over Rs 1,360 crore. These projects will focus on improving road connectivity, constructing Anganwadi centers, multi-purpose centers, and school hostels, along with other development efforts.

During the event, Modi announced electrification of more than 75,800 households belonging to particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTG) in around 3,000 villages. He also marked about other initiatives, such as the operationalization of mobile medical units, the establishment of Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, and the provision of tap drinking water in PVTG villages.

Modi emphasized the significance of launching these initiatives from Hazaribagh’s Vinoba Bhave University, stating that they would play a crucial role in uplifting the tribal population and promoting sustainable development. He noted that the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan is being launched from the land of tribal leader Birsa Munda, and reminded the audience that the first anniversary of the PM-JANMAN scheme will be celebrated on November 15, which is observed as Tribal Pride Day.

The launching of projects worth crores was witnessed by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar, Union Ministers Jual Oram, Annapurna Devi, and Sanjay Seth.
