Ranchi: Jharkhand is witnessing a significant spike in passport applications, prompting the Regional Passport Office (RPO) to increase daily appointments. Data reveals that the demand for international travel documents has hit an all-time high, with the state expanding its service capacity to meet the surge.
Record-Breaking Numbers
The Regional Passport Office, Ranchi, reported a substantial jump in the number of passports issued over the last two years:

2024: 1,12,844 passports issued.

2025: 1,30,404 passports issued.
This growth reflects the RPO’s continuous efforts to streamline the application process and provide effective citizen services across its network of 16 centers, including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, and Deoghar.
Appointment Availability: Ranchi vs. Jamshedpur
Currently, the RPO Ranchi releases 1,580 appointments daily across the state. While most centers offer quick turnaround times, demand varies by location:

Ranchi PSK: Appointments are generally available for the next working day.

Most POPSKs: Next-day slots are available for almost all post office centers.

Jamshedpur POPSK: Due to heavy demand at the Bistupur center, applicants face a waiting period of 15 to 20 days.
The Bistupur POPSK in Jamshedpur currently handles approximately 100 appointments per day. Authorities are actively working to reduce the waiting window for Jamshedpur residents.
Mobile Services and Citizen Convenience
To make the process more accessible, the RPO Ranchi has introduced a Passport Mobile Van service. This initiative brings passport services closer to citizens in remote areas, ensuring that the surge in demand does not lead to a backlog.
