Jamshedpur: Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari distributed e-tricycles to 10 persons with disabilities and presented certificates to persons with disabilities for their national-level representation in various sports. The Minister stated that a society can only be considered progressive when an inclusive environment, equal opportunities, and a dignified life are ensured for persons with disabilities. Toward this end, the state government, under the leadership of the Chief Minister, is rapidly implementing various welfare schemes. He stated that the government is working for the welfare of all sections of society. During the event, the District Social Security Cell presented presentations on the types of disabilities, assistance provisions, and technical support.
The programme was organized at the Collectorate auditorium by the District Administration, East Singhbhum, in collaboration with the District Social Security Cell, to mark World Disability Day. This year’s theme—“Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress”—served as the foundation for discussions on accessibility, rights, empowerment, and expanding opportunities for persons with disabilities across the state.

Jugsalai MLA Mangal Kalindi, Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi, Deputy Development Commissioner Nagendra Paswan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal, and officials from various departments were present on the occasion. Representatives of social organisations, disability rights activists, voluntary groups, and community members also participated, sharing suggestions for strengthening disability-friendly infrastructure and policy implementation.
Speakers emphasized that empowerment must go beyond symbolic gestures and focus on real-world changes including education, skill development, livelihood opportunities, and improved access to government services. Participants appreciated the district administration’s initiatives and expressed hope that such programmes will accelerate efforts towards building a barrier-free and inclusive society.
The programme concluded with a commitment to continue collaborative work between government bodies, civil society, and community groups to significantly improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities in East Singhbhum and the state.
