Jharkhand has made long strides, but much remains to be done: CM

Ranchi, Dec. 10: Addressing a conclave on �Temporal Context of Democracy & Inclusive Politics,� Chief Minister Mr. Raghubar Das on Thursday said that Jharkhand has succeeded in implementing �minimum government, maximum governance� and achieved the third rank among 29 states in the country owing to the team work of different ministries, officers and staff.

He said that due to the political instability in the past, the state could not prosper as expected by people. But with a clear mandate this time, people have invested their faith in the current government.

The CM said that the state is giving priority to develop basic infrastructure, drinking water, housing, sanitation, health, roadways, electricity and eco-friendly development. He said that PTPC has been connected with NTPC in order to produce 4000 MW electricity and the North Karnpura plant will produce 17,000 MW electricity by 2017 to make Jharkhand self sufficient in its energy requirements.

In order to implement eco-friendly development in the state, the government is utilizing barren land for solar farming. Moreover, the government is serious about making Jharkhand �Swachh� on the next birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. To ensure this, the government has started to build toilets in three lakh villages.

He said that the government is developing 17 Naxalite-affected districts on grassroots level. He patted his government for controlling Naxalite activities during his regime. He said that the surrender policy for the Red rebels has been redesigned and as a result, the number of surrendering naxalites has increased. He said that the government is well aware of the activities carried out by the anti-social in the name of Naxalites. He hoped that the government will sort out this problem in 6 months.

Taking decentralization of power as essential for strengthening the democracy, the CM discussed the tri-level panchayat election in the state and said that the people�s participation in the election even in the Naxalite-affected zones is a testimony that the people are coming into the mainstream. Regarding the demands of small states, he said that this is related with the central government it will take decision on right time.

Apart from the Jharkhand CM, Chatttisgarh CM Dr. Raman Singh, Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat, Delhi CM Arvind Kejeriwal and former central minister Jairam Ramesh were present in the program.
