Jharkhand: Gumla records lowest temperature at 5.7°C

Jamshedpur: Gumla was the coldest place in Jharkhand on Saturday with the minimum temperature plummeting to a chilly 5.7 degrees Celsius, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The cold wave conditions were felt across several districts, with temperatures dipping significantly below normal in many regions.
Chatra recorded a minimum temperature of 6.9 degrees Celsius, while Simdega saw the mercury settle at 8.4 degrees. Garhwa also experienced a cold morning with 8.1 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Khunti at 7.9 degrees Celsius. Lohardaga registered a low of 9.2 degrees Celsius, and Hazaribagh recorded a slightly higher minimum temperature at 10.6 degrees Celsius.
Despite the chill in several districts, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad, and the state capital Ranchi woke up to bright and sunny weather, providing a much-needed respite to residents.
The IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre forecasted no significant changes in the minimum temperature over the next 72 hours. “Fair and moderate weather is likely to prevail in most places across Jharkhand for the next two to three days,” a senior meteorologist said.
Satellite imagery indicated the presence of a Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh and its neighboring areas, hovering at 3.1 km above mean sea level. While this disturbance is unlikely to bring any drastic changes to Jharkhand’s weather, it underscores the ongoing winter patterns in the region.
The cold wave has prompted residents in the affected areas to bundle up and prepare for chilly nights. Authorities have advised people, particularly in rural regions, to take precautions to stay warm as the winter conditions persist.
