Jharkhand Govt to extend IAS-IPS-style health facilities to ministers, MLAs

Ranchi: Dr. Irfan Ansari, health minister, has announced a major initiative to provide ministers, legislators, former legislators, and their families with enhanced medical facilities, similar to those available to IAS and IPS officers. The decision has been made under the guidance and approval of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, with a draft of the new rules prepared for upcoming cabinet approval.

Under the new framework, beneficiaries will receive better healthcare and reimbursement for medical expenses, modeled on the All India Services Medical Attendance Rules, 1954. Payments for medical reimbursements will be routed through the Jharkhand Assembly Secretariat, enabling easier access to cashless treatment at hospitals across the country.

Dr. Ansari explained that the move addresses challenges faced by legislators during treatment, including limited coverage at hospitals. After careful study and consultations, the previous system has been replaced with this more comprehensive structure.

Currently, state employees and lawyers already receive health insurance benefits. With this change, ministers, MLAs, and former legislators will gain broader and more effective medical coverage, marking a significant step in Jharkhand’s health sector reforms.
