Jharkhand Govt should revoke holding tax hike before municipal polls: Saryu Roy

Jamshedpur East MLA accuses Banna of patting his own back

Jamshedpur, Oct 26: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy Wednesday demanded that the Hemant Soren government should withdraw its decision to hike the holding tax before announcing dates of municipal elections in Jharkhand.

In a statement issued today, Roy said the state government should also make its stance on holding tax issue clear before going ahead with the municipal polls. He alleged that the state government wanted to keep the people of the state in confusion on the holding tax issue and trying to reap its benefits in the upcoming municipal elections.

In an allusion to the state Health Minister Banna Gupta, Roy said, “The minister is patting his own back by claiming credit for putting the holding tax proposal on hold. He is trying to walk away with the cake without actually having done nothing to deserve it. He wants his men to win the municipal elections on the poll plank of withdrawing holding tax. But surprisingly, he did not register his protest during tabling of the proposal to hike holding tax in the state Cabinet meeting. He also did not register his protest and did not protest when the proposal got final approval.”
