Railway to conduct second survey of new Kandra-Namkum rail line
Jamshedpur: Jharkhand government will be handing its final report on the proposed construction of the railway over-bridge (ROB) at Jugsalai railway level crossing to the Railways on 20th July. Once the report is okay, the tender process will kick off for the ROB construction. This was informed here on Saturday by the GM of South Eastern Railway zone, SN Agrawal, on his visit to Tatanagar railway station.
The GM met the Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato at the VIP room of the railway station and discussed a number of pending railway projects with him.
He inquired about the status of the state governments report on the Jugsalai ROB. The MP told him the report was likely to be given on 20th July.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with the MP, Agrawal said the Railway department was going to conduct a second survey for the new rail line from Kandra to Namkum. He said the first survey of the said rail line was conducted some five years ago. The Railway Board has sought an updated report of the survey, he said.
Asked about the progress in escalator installation work, the GM said the work was delayed due to theft of certain spare parts used in setting up the escalator structure. He said the work had started and that it would soon be completed once the spare parts are available.
Agrawal said plans were afoot to build a foot over bridge (FOB) at Tatanagar up to Burmamines gate. The project would be completed in two phases, he said, adding that one phase of work was underway while the other would be started after availability of funds.
Speaking about the Tatanagar-Kharagpur third rail line project, the GM said the work till Juruli, Mahalimurum and Adityapur was proposed to be completed in 2017 itself. The tender for a third line from Tatanagar to Kharagpur would be floated soon, he said.
The rail GM said any decision to start new trains on the Bihar-UP route would be taken only after laying new rail lines. He said the new line would result in more platforms and sheds so that trains do not have to stop at the outer sections. He said the train traffic would improve on the Howrah-Mumbai route through the third line at Tatanagar.
Agrawal inspected the portico and FOB of the platform and later departed for Juruli while inspecting the rail line through the window in a special train.
