Jamshedpur: The Jharkhand government has addressed concerns regarding contaminated water supply from Moharda, assuring that efforts are underway to ensure clean water distribution. Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu had raised questions in the state assembly, suggesting that increasing the depth of the filtration plant could resolve the issue.
In response, the Urban Development and Housing Department clarified that the Moharda Water Supply Project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) was approved by the Chief Engineer of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department. The construction was carried out by the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division, Adityapur. The project is being operated and maintained in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode by Tata Steel UISL (formerly JUSCO).
A meeting on March 12, 2025, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, was held between the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee and Tata Steel UISL to discuss technical aspects. The meeting concluded with a decision to resolve the issue promptly.
MLA Purnima Sahu expressed satisfaction with the decision, stating that residents will soon receive clean water.
MLA Purnima Sahu also raises concerns over bridge on Kanchi River
The MLA also questioned the government about the construction of a new bridge over the Kanchi River on the Jamshedpur-Ranchi route. The government responded that the new bridge is being built by the central government alongside the existing one, which has been damaged. For safety reasons, traffic movement on the old bridge has been halted and the newly constructed bridge is currently in use.
A tender process for a new bridge to replace the damaged one has been completed, with an agreement already signed. Soil exploration work is currently in progress. MLA Purnima Sahu stated that the construction of the new bridge will greatly improve transportation convenience for commuters
