Two-day national conference begins at Karim City College

Jamshedpur, Jan 4: Governor Ramesh Bais on Wednesday called for rural transformation through the use of technology. He said that there is a need to promote the use of advanced technologies to boost agriculture in the villages.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a two-day national interdisciplinary conference, organised under the joint aegis of Karim City College’s Department of Commerce and NABARD on ‘Agriculture and Rural Development and their Share and Stake in Economic Growth’.

In his thought-provoking address, Bais looked closely at many aspects of agriculture and rural development and reminded that there was a time when our villages were self-sufficient. “ Today the situation is such that milk and vegetables are also coming from the city into the village. The dependence of the village on the city is fatal for the rural economy. We have to pay attention to this as soon as possible. Modern methods of farming have to be taken to the villages. We have to increase productivity and take agricultural products to bigger markets,” said Bais.

He expressed a lot of hope from this conference and said that definitely many good and positive suggestions will come out.

On this occasion, Dr. Gangadhar Panda, Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University was present as special guest and Gautam Kumar Singh from NABARD as guest, Dr. Kamini Kumar, Pro Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University, Dr. Anjali Gupta, Vice Chancellor Jamshedpur Women’s University, Vijaya Jadhav Deputy Commissioner East Singhbhum were present.  KJS Sathya Sai, former chief manager NABARD attended the meeting as the keynote speaker.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Governor for his special affection towards Kolhan University. He said that the earth is our mother and we are its sons and our agriculture is linked to the womb of this earth. Advancement of agriculture is the basis of the development of rural areas of our country, for which NABARD is doing commendable work at the national level.

General Manager, NABARD in his speech highlighted the role of NABARD in the field of agriculture and rural development. In this regard, after specifically mentioning the self-help groups and Kisan Credit Card, he said that NABARD cooperates with the state government with its resources so that the condition of the farmers can be improved. He reiterated the motto of NABARD Gaon bade to desh badhe. He discussed the upcoming challenges and said that we are facing new problems due to climate change which have to be solved. He expressed hope that the suggestions that will come out of the discussion in this conference will be used for the development of agriculture in the state of Jharkhand.

The keynote speaker said Dr KJS Sathya Sai, an agricultural economist and scholar of the subject who came from Mumbai, in his speech discussed specially on marginal farmers and made it clear that the income of farmers in Jharkhand has decreased which is a matter of concern.
