Jharkhand government concerned about women’s healthcare: Banna Gupta

Jamshedpur, June 19: Women Doctors Wing of Indian Medical Association, Jharkhand chapter, and Jharkhand state health department jointly organized a camp on eradication of breast and cervical cancer at Ravindra Bhavan, Jamshedpur, on Sunday. State Health Minister Banna Gupta and IMA national president Dr Sahajanand Prasad Singh jointly inaugurated the camp by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

In his address, the Health Minister said the state government was concerned about the health and proper care of women. He said the government was working in a planned manner to ensure women’s health and counter various diseases affecting them. He said the government had taken a pledge to eradicate cervical cancer from the state.

Gupta further said that the government is also working on plans to ensure safe delivery and proper care of mother and child before and after delivery.

As many as 351 patients were examined at the camp, out of whom 210 were found to be suffering from genital infection. Twelve women were diagnosed with pre-cervical cancer. They were given Colposcopy-guided cryotherapy treatment at the camp, sources said.

A team led by Dr Kanika Gupta, gynaeocologist of Max Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi, examined the visiting women. On this occasion, 30 government hospital gynaecologists were trained on digital video Colposcopy and cryotherapy.

The women were also given free iron, folic acid and calcium tablets at the camp.

Dr Bharati Kashyap, national co-chairwoman of Women Doctors Wing, said the campaign for eradication of cervical cancer was on since 2015 and now breast cancer screening has been added to it.
