Ranchi: Jharkhand is all set to become self reliant in the field of fisheries seeds storage in 2017. By January 2017, 65 hatcheries will be completed and by September, storage for 325 crore fisheries seeds will be completed. This was informed today by Jharkhand Chief Secretary Raj Bala Verma during a review of Fisheries Directorate.
The CS directed all the DFOs to complete the under-construction hatcheries by 10th January, 2017. The hatchery management committees should be trained about making hatcheries so that timely construction can be ensured.
Regarding branding of the fishery products, the CS said that they should be branded as Jharfresh and broadcasted properly.
She directed to make a work plan of setting up 120 hatcheries in the next financial year to ensure self dependence in fisheries seeds storage.
She said that fishermen should be trained to be cashless and that they should coordinate with Jharkhand Cooperative Bank, make work plan for promotion of active fisheries entrepreneurs and provide D-fridge van on subsidy.
She asked the officials concerned to select at least two fishery entrepreneurs from every district who are experienced and having marketing knowledge. A total of 50 fishery entrepreneurs will be selected in the state. They should also be given fish credit card so that they can boost up their business.
With regard to net making scheme, the CS directed to train the sakhi mandals to make fishing nets and at least 10 sakhi mandals should be selected as micro enterprises.
Regarding RFF (river and fishing farming), the CS asked the officials to target 1,000 places in the next fiscal and start working on them after the budget is passed. The department officials informed her that in the financial year, 775 RFF have been approved and work has been started on them. In 76 per cent field farms, fisheries work is done successfully.
The CS said that work should be done at every level for making the state ODF. Hence, fishing friends, animal and dairies friends should get their toilets made and the govt. will give them Rs. 12,000 for the purpose. Fishers promoting ODF will be awarded.
Special Secretary, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Pooja Singhal, Director, Fisheries Directorate Rajeev Kumar and other officers were present in the meeting.
