Ghatshila, Nov 22:  The 22nd Jharkhand Foundation Day celebrations included honouring of police and defense personnel. The state Governor honoured 13 defense personel including soldiers, paramilitary and state police martyrs at a function organized at Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha premises. The Governor, Chief Minister and Assembly Speaker distributed the honours.

It may be mentioned here that one of the recipients was Shaurya Chakra Md Javed who had saved 32 persons during the great earthquake in Gujarat’s Bhuj on January 26, 2001. Javed, without caring for his safety, had pulled out 32 persons who were buried in the debris of the earthquake and taken them to hospitals or other safer places. It was mayhem all around and the rescuers, led by Md Javed performed the ‘saviours’ acts. The earth tremors were happening at a dozen or more every hour. In the recue process, Md Javed lost one of his men who too was a part of the rescue team. On the final day of the earthquake, Javed and his remaining teammates rescued 12 persons including a girl.

It is noteworthy that Md Javed saved 32 people from their homes in the Bhuj earthquake on 26 January 2001. But the people living outside the camp, who were buried in the collapsed building and had somehow saved their lives, were also afraid to let their family members come out, while earthquake tremors were coming ten to twelve times in an hour. Along with his team, one of the colleague of  Md Javed died. but somehow 12 lives were saved, he saved a girl on the last day of the earthquake.
