Chaibasa: An incident unfolded at Nayagaon Odia Primary School in Noamundi block, West Singhbhum, where 17 schoolchildren and five village children fell ill after consuming the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) on Thursday. One girl lost her life following the incident. In response, Food Safety Officer Abhishek Anand visited the school on Saturday to inspect the premises and collect food samples for testing. He stated that the meal included rice, dal and potato-brinjal curry, which allegedly caused the illness. Samples of dal, rice, oil and spices were taken for further analysis.
Following the incident, fear gripped the students and none attended school on Saturday, despite it being open as usual. Meanwhile, medical teams set up a camp in the village to examine the affected children and provide necessary care. The school, which has a total of 35 enrolled students, saw nearly half of them fall sick after consuming the meal. Teacher Birendra Nath Mahato mentioned that he and other staff members had also eaten the same food but remained unaffected. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the illness.
