Jharkhand Elections: Voting to be held in 2 phases starting Nov 13, Results on Nov 23

New Delhi/Ranchi: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday announced that assembly elections in Jharkhand will be held in two phases.

Voters in Jharkhand will cast their votes on November 13 and November 20.

The counting of votes is scheduled for November 23. The current Jharkhand assembly’s term is set to expire on January 5, 2025.

In addition to Jharkhand, Maharashtra will also go to the polls, with voting to take place in a single phase on November 20.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar also announced that voters aged 85 and older can utilize a home voting option by submitting a 12D form, with video recordings of the process to ensure transparency. Additionally, candidates with criminal backgrounds must disclose their legal issues in local newspapers.

A total of 2.06 crore voters will cast their votes across 29,562 booths, including 5,042 in urban areas and 24,520 in rural regions. Each booth is expected to serve an average of 881 voters, with 1,271 booths managed by women.

In the previous assembly elections in 2019, the Grand Alliance of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) secured 47 out of 81 seats, while the BJP won only 25.
Hemant Soren became Chief Minister after this election, but he faced challenges, including a resignation amid a land scam investigation. He later returned to office after receiving bail.

The first phase out of the two phases of polling has been announced on November 13, Phase 2 is on November 20. The results will be announced on November 23.
