Ranchi, Mar 19: The Jharkhand Economic Survey 2024-25 highlights significant improvements in women’s literacy and child welfare while acknowledging persistent challenges such as domestic violence and child marriage.
The state’s maternal mortality rate (MMR) has dropped to 56 per 100,000 live births, significantly lower than the national average of 97. Similarly, the infant mortality rate (IMR) is 25 per 1,000 live births, better than the national average of 28. Female literacy has also risen to 72.6%.
However, issues like child marriage (32.2% of women married before 18) and domestic violence (32% of married women experiencing abuse) remain pressing concerns. The government is focusing on expanding schemes like Saksham Anganwadi, Mission Shakti and social assistance programs to address these challenges.
A senior official from the Ministry of Women and Child Development remarked, “Our goal is to empower women and children through strategic, long-term interventions. We envision a more inclusive Jharkhand by 2047.”
