Jharkhand crowned best performing state in Swachh Survekshan 2020, Jugsalai, Khunti and Madhupur win accolades

Ranchi, August 20: Jharkhand on Thursday was announced as the cleanest state in Swachh Survekshan 2020 results in a category of Urban local bodies. Jharkhand is the cleanest state in the category of state with less than 100 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs)

The announcement was made by the Union Ministry of Urban Affairs. Announcing the winner of the cleanest state, Union Minister for Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri congratulated Chief Secretary of Jharkhand. Haryana and Uttarakhand won the second and third spot.

Union Ministry of Urban Affairs is meant to monitor the performance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, launched in 2014. The survey was conducted in 4,242 cities, 62 cantonment boards and 92 Ganga towns and was completed in 28 days. Addressing the winners and citizens at large, the Minister said, “More than five years ago, the Prime Minister had seen a dream – the dream of a Swachh Bharat. Today, we feel immensely proud, as well as humbled, to see how every citizen of urban India has come together to make that dream a tangible reality.” 41 municipal bodies in Jharkhand were part of the survey. The survey which started on January 4, 2020 concluded in last week of the January. It was the joint efforts of urban development department, state urban development agency and all the municipal bodies that Jharkhand has stood first in state with less than 100 Urban Local Bodies.   

Jamshedpur has been declared �Best Medium City� in the category of 3 lakh to 10 lakh population in the country in the Swachh Survekshan (SS) Awards 2020 that were announced at New Delhi on Thursday. The city won the accolade under the category of first �Best Medium City in Citizens feedback� in India.  For the first time, Jamshedpur was conferred with the 7th Position under National level 1-10 lakh category population and ranked first in the state of Jharkhand for the second time in a row.

Jugsalai has been awarded the Best City in ‘Innovation & Best Practices’ ( Population between 25,000-50,000) East Zone category. 122 cities with population less than 50 thousand were part of the survey.

On the other hand, Khunti near Ranchi won the award in the “Best City in Citizens Feedback (Population between 25,000-50,000) East Zone” category. Madhupur won the best city in citizen feedback (Population between 50,000-1,00,000) East Zone category.
