Jharkhand Crime News: Woman, Paramour Accused of Killing Husband; Body Recovered from Forest in Gumla

Gumla (IANS): In a chilling murder case from Gumla district, a woman allegedly conspired with her paramour to kill her husband and dump his body in a forest area under the jurisdiction of Sisai police station, police said on Monday.

The body of the victim, identified as Budhram Tirkey (36), was recovered from the Songra Pahad Kona forest near Mukunda village. Budhram was working as a sales manager at a textile store in Gumla.

According to police officials, the murder was allegedly planned by Budhram’s wife, Ranthi Devi, in collusion with her alleged lover, Sitaram Oraon.

The case surfaced after Budhram suddenly went missing, triggering suspicion among family members. His brother, Suresh Tirkey, informed the police that on January 2, Budhram had left home with his wife and their son, stating they were going to consult a traditional healer. However, Ranthi Devi later returned home the same evening with the child alone.

When questioned about Budhram’s whereabouts, she allegedly gave evasive and contradictory answers, deepening the family’s suspicion. After unsuccessful attempts to trace him, the family lodged a missing person complaint at the Gumla police station.

Meanwhile, local villagers alerted police about a body lying in a forest area. Police teams rushed to the spot and recovered the body, which was later confirmed to be that of Budhram Tirkey.

During the investigation, police found evidence suggesting that Ranthi Devi was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with Sitaram Oraon. Investigators believe the murder was premeditated to eliminate Budhram due to the affair. Preliminary inquiry indicates that the victim was allegedly killed with a sharp weapon before the body was dumped in the forest.

Police have taken Ranthi Devi and Sitaram Oraon into custody for questioning. Officials also revealed that two more individuals may be involved in the crime, and raids are currently underway to arrest them.

Confirming the developments, police officer Suresh Prasad Yadav said the wife and her alleged lover have been taken into custody on murder charges and assured that all other accused will be arrested soon.
